About this quiz
Anime's 'dere' archetypes are a fun and surprisingly precise vocabulary for the ways people express affection — particularly when they're not super comfortable being affectionate directly. This eight-question quiz lands you in one of the four most-common dere types: Tsundere (cold-then-warm), Yandere (obsessively devoted), Kuudere (icy on the surface), or Dandere (quiet and shy). Pick honest answers, not the dere type you'd cosplay. The result is most useful when it surprises you.

What you'll discover
- 01
Tsundere
You're tsundere — cold-on-the-outside, warm-once-you-trust. Your default move with people you care about is to push them away first, then slowly let them in over time. You'd rather be misread as dismissive than admit how much you actually care, and your close friends know that any affection from you (a snack, a text, a defense of you in your absence) is the equivalent of a hug from anyone else. The growth edge is letting the warmth show earlier. People want to know they're in the inner circle. Tell them.
- 02
Yandere
You're yandere — fiercely, obsessively devoted to the people you love. Your loyalty is the kind that scares the wrong people and reassures the right ones; you'd rearrange your entire life for the small handful of people who count, and you've made peace with the fact that this is not how most people love. The risk is when devotion tips into possessiveness. Watch the boundary. Love them; don't try to own them. The healthiest version of yandere is fierce devotion that still respects the other person's full life outside of you.
- 03
Kuudere
You're kuudere — icy on the surface, deeply emotional underneath. You don't perform feelings for an audience, and you've been called 'cold' or 'distant' by people who don't realize that your interior is the opposite. Your close friends know the truth: when you do open up, the depth is unmistakable. The risk is the gap between how you feel and how you express it. The right people deserve to see the inside more often. Drop the surface a few degrees with the ones who've already proved they're staying.

Dandere
You're dandere — quiet and shy, but devoted underneath. Your default is to listen more than you speak, to observe rather than perform, and your friends have learned that the rare things you actually say carry more weight than the loud people's running commentary. The risk is shrinking yourself into invisibility around people who'd value hearing more from you. Use your voice with the right rooms. Quiet is a real strength; silence is not the same thing. Speak when it matters and the right people will lean in.
